Project Objectives

The goal of the Exit 20 Interchange Area Corridor Management Study is to create a buildable vision for this highway segment to safely and efficiently integrate multiple modes of transportation including pedestrians, bicyclists, transit vehicles, and motorized vehicles. The results of the study will also optimize consistency with local planning and development objectives for the area including long term support and success of the overall sustainability of the context and business investments in the corridor. An effective plan will include a variety of transportation improvement concept alternatives, land use and site planning reviews and recommendations, and environmental considerations such as traffic calming and streetscaping improvements.

The Study area within the Town of Queensbury is shown in the graphic below and includes:

  • US Route 9 from Round Pond Road to 1/4 mile north of the the Route 9/NYS Route 149 intersection
  • Gurney Lane from West Mountain Road to US Route 9

Project Goals:

  • Improve circulation for vehicles, transit, pedestrians, and bicycles through the project corridor with a comprehensive and “buildable” recommendation plan.
  • Investigate I-87 interchange options that will preserve long-term regional mobility.

Project Advisory Committee

A/GFTC, as the project sponsor, established a study advisory committee to provide input and guidance to the consultant during the progression of this study. The following table includes representatives that have been invited to participate on the committee. The A/GFTC Transportation Planning Director, Aaron Frankenfeld (AFrankenfeld@co.washington.ny.us), will chair the committee and direct the overall project.
