Project Highlights
Project Description:The objective of this project was to design all the new town roads that would provide access to the future high-tech land uses in Luther Forest Technology Campus. The primary roads were designed to NYSDOT arterial standards. The project included extensive grading related to the terrain, wetland mitigation, a complex storm water system, archaeological sites, a multi-use path and coordination with property owners and utility companies. This project also involved the construction of four (4) new bridge structures. The structures were designed to span existing waterways, wetlands and support new waterline and storm drain pipe. All structures consisted of precast concrete three-sided arch structures ranging in span from 14 ft to 48 ft. The length of the structures varied from 200 ft to 235 ft. Poor soil conditions in conjunction with fill heights up to 25 ft at the bridge crossings complicated the foundation design. Structures were supported by cast in place concrete footings on steel pile foundations or concrete spread footings with Expanded Polystyrene Fill (Geofoam) as backfill to reduce foundation loads. Steel pile foundations up to 90 ft long were utilized to withstand the excessive downdrag forces.
